Job Summary: As a Computer Network Technician at Nova Atlantic College, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving our computer networks. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that our staff and students have reliable access to the digital resources they need for teaching, learning, and administration. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and excellent communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, and Wi-Fi access points.
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot network problems, and ensure the security of the college’s data and IT systems.
  • Implement network security measures, and conduct regular system backups, and disaster recovery operations.
  • Collaborate with the IT team to design and deploy new network solutions and upgrades.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to staff and students, addressing network-related issues promptly.
  • Document network configurations, changes, and procedures to maintain an up-to-date knowledge base.
  • Stay informed of new technologies and best practices in network management to propose improvements to the college’s network infrastructure.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Computer Network Technician or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, IP addressing, and network security protocols.
  • Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with major networking hardware brands and operating systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with members of the college community.
  • Certification in networking (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CCNA) is preferred.

User Support Technician

To enhance our IT department, we are seeking a dedicated User Support Technician to provide comprehensive assistance to our staff and students.

Job Summary: The User Support Technician will be the first point of contact for staff and students experiencing IT issues. This role involves troubleshooting hardware and software problems, providing timely and empathetic support, and contributing to the smooth operation of all IT-related functions within the college. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for delivering outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide first-level contact and problem resolution for all users with hardware, software, and application problems.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical hardware and software issues involving internet connectivity, email clients, IPTV, VOIP, and more.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to the appropriate internal teams.
  • Record, track, and document the help desk request problem-solving process, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made, and actions taken.
  • Develop help sheets and frequently asked questions lists for end users.
  • Train computer users as necessary.
  • Maintain an inventory of all equipment, software, and software licenses.
  • Report issues to the IT Manager for escalation.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a technical support role.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in both hardware and software issues.
  • Familiarity with desktop operating systems and various software applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer care skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information, both verbal and written, to a non-technical audience.
  • A high degree of attention to detail and a team player mentality.
  • Certification in ITIL, CompTIA A+, or Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) is an asset.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of office management systems and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of office equipment, like printers and fax machines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular).
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
